Food bracelet is the precursor of the project ‘A daughter married away is like cast out water’. Inspired by traditional Chinese wedding bracelets which are made of pure gold and the bride usually never wear them after the wedding day, and often sell them in time of need or emergency. Comparing these contrasting materials: rice and gold, one may wonder, is it not more important to have food when you are hungry and the usage is more immediate than having a piece of gold when its value is only cultural and conditioned?
